 Explanation of social measurement terms

Social measurement is a method of measuring patterns of interpersonal relationships and interpersonal interactions between members within a group, especially small groups. It was proposed by psychologist Morino in 1934.

The basic assumption of social measurement is that there are different degrees of interaction within the group, so that each member forms an informal organization based on different degrees of positive and negative interpersonal feelings, and this relationship of mutual preference and alienation can have a significant impact on the morale and efficiency of the group.

In the specific implementation, the participants are often asked to point out five people with different levels of intimacy by direct inquiry or questionnaire, and then use different techniques, such as social matrix or social network map, to analyze the collected materials, so as to determine the interaction pattern between group members, the degree of acceptance of individuals by the group, and the internal structure and cohesion of the group.
